Madonna's Rep Shoots Down Divorce, A-Rod Rumors

U.S. pop star Madonna and her husband, British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, are not planning to divorce, her spokeswoman said Tuesday, denying media speculation that their marriage is ending.

"There are no divorce plans," Liz Rosenberg, Madonna's publicist, said in a statement emailed to Reuters.

Rumors that the London-based couple planned to split have been circulating for months, fueled most recently by reports that the singer had lined up Fiona Shackleton, a lawyer for Paul McCartney in his bitter divorce from Heather Mills.

The speculation reached a fever pitch last week in London, where the Daily Mirror newspaper dedicated two front pages to the plight of the couple's marriage.

Guy Ritchie's mother has also blasted reports of a divorce, calling the stories "rubbish."

Madonna, 49, and Ritchie, 39, married in December 2000 at Skibo Castle in northeast Scotland. They met at a party hosted by ex-Police frontman Sting and his wife Trudie Styler.

Their son, Rocco, was several months old on their wedding day, and in 2006 Madonna applied to adopt David Banda, a boy from Malawi whose mother died shortly after his birth. The adoption was approved by a Malawian court in May.

Madonna also has a daughter, Lourdes, from an earlier relationship. She was married once before, to Hollywood actor Sean Penn, in the 1980s.

Madonna is one of the most successful rock stars of all time, with global album sales estimated at more than 200 million copies. A multi-Grammy award winner, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March.

Ritchie is best known for his movies "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" (1998) and "Snatch" (2000), but he has come in for critical maulings since then, most notably when he directed Madonna in "Swept Away" (2002).

Asked if he would ever work with his wife again, Ritchie told Reuters in an interview in late 2007: "I don't know. We don't want to stick our chins out again."

Madonna's rep also shoots down rumors claiming the singer is involved with New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez. Us reported the 'Material Girl' reportedly snuck the married A-Rod into her New York apartment building for solo visits, which has "all the doormen ... talking."

Madonna and Rodriguez have also swapped tickets. He was seen at Madonna's concert in New York City on April 30, and Madonna was in A-Rod's seats for a Yankee game on June 22.

Heidi Montag Compares Herself to Jesus

'Hills' villain Heidi Montag thinks very highly of herself.

The reality-tv star, whose feud with the show's protagonist Lauren Conrad is the reason most tune in to watch, likens herself to Jesus, when discussing the fight between herself and Conrad, which started when Conrad accused Montag and her boyfriend, Spencer Pratt, of spreading rumors about an alleged sex tape between Lauren and her ex.

"I don't even want to talk about that. There were rumors about a sex tape, but I had nothing to do with that. God knows the truth in all of this, and at the end of the day, that is the only thing that matters. Jesus was persecuted, and I'm going to get persecuted, ya know? But it doesn't matter to me," Montag tells USA Today.

In the same interview, the wannabe singer discusses her ideals on religion.

Montag considers herself "the most religious person," says she is a "kind of non-denominational Baptist," and is planning a trip to Africa with Pratt to "feed children and help build things."

Although he was born in St. Louis, Aliaune Thiam -- aka Akon -- grew up in Senegal before he and his family (including his father, jazz percussionist Mor Thiam) returned to the United States and settled in New Jersey when he was seven. There he discovered hip-hop for the first time, as well as crime. He was eventually jailed, but he used the time to work on his musical ideas. Upon release, Akon began writing and recording tracks in a home studio. The tapes found their way to SRC/Universal, which eventually released Trouble, Akon's debut LP, in June 2004. The album was an interesting hybrid of Akon's raps and silky, West African-styled vocals with East Coast- and Southern-styled beats. The success of the song "Locked Up" raised Akon's profile, and he followed up in the fall of 2006 with Konvicted. Soon enough, two of the album's singles, "I Wanna Love You" and "Smack That," had made their way to the upper regions of the Billboard charts.
