Statement on Resignation

Date: 23/07/08

When I announced my resignation from i-mag earlier in the week, I had not anticipated so many supportive messages from people wanting me to carry on writing about Formula One. After the fiasco of Beccles Carnival on Sunday, it had pushed me across the line to quit after only a few months.

The truth is that I had not enjoyed writing for i-mag for a long time and I had already considered finishing the end of the year and leaving for good. Due to my commitment to i-mag and all of my readers, I felt as if Formula One was no longer my passion and becoming a profession. It wasn't something that I wanted to face and just wanted to enjoy watching the sport again.

However, i-mag has been a positive experience for me as well. If it weren't for i-mag, I wouldn't have met new people such as Jack (Editor) and Beth (Health) and we wouldn't have had a great time together and my ICT lessons would still be dull. i-mag also provided me to meet familiar faces again such as Mel (Literature), who I had not spoken to in over 5 years until last Tuesday! As you may be aware, I also had an intense rivalry with her for best page when the Leaderboard was created. This, I assure you, was only a bit of harmless fun with her and a way to make things exciting.

Since March, I have been covering each race on the calendar. As soon as I wrote the first and it was published, I set about making the page the best on the site with lots of interesting features. Jack admitted that I was probably the first to cover my page and put a lot of effort in past the main article. I worked out that each race means me having to spend over an hour just trying to update all of it. However, most of you responded with lots of similar effort into the pages, making i-mag develop from its simple roots when I joined in March to what it is now.

Jack and I have not always seen eye to eye. Recently, he has endlessly pestered me and generally annoyed me. Now I have said I'm leaving, he is realising he is in the wrong. I think this is why he wants me back so much.

I have to extend a big thank you to those who do read my column and to those who recently posted messages, wanting me to come back after November. Your kind support brought on feelings of remorse, realising i-mag needs me. This is making me reconsider my position at the moment and further updates will be made here. I'm not sure whether I will do race by race coverage and instead do something a bit less often.

Thank you.

Pilot Hopeful/Reporter Profile

Tom is an avid Air Race fan, and with any hope, future pilot with the RAF. Of course, he wants to become a Red Bull Air Race pilot, but that's ages away. He can often be heard shouting 'That's Numberwang' or laughing at his friends for saying something stupid or at politics, especially George Bush (and recently Northern Ireland). He also works at Beccles Airfield on Saturdays and spends his time talking to pilots over the good ole' wireless (radio), known in the local aviation world simply as Beccles Radio.

Part II:

Date: 04/08/08

After a long period of consideration, I have decided to leave i-mag as continued after November. Sorry to all of you who wanted me to stay as a reporter, I just cannot do it any more. Special apologies to Mel, I know me in i-mag meant more than just my reports, but a reunion after a long time of good friends.

Thank you.

COMMENT...

Give your opinions on the latest news spreading round i-mag like wildfire, me leaving it, here. Oh yes, and that is me below.

Do you think I should leave? Why?

  1. Im confused... has Tom left yet, as none of the pages have been updated.

  2. Which event are we talking about, Mel?

  3. Tom. Read the guest book! By the way, Sunday isn't on here.

  4. I agree with the map >>>

  5. Who listens to maps anyway?

  6. So come on then, you have until the start of September to stop me from running away. I want to hear your opinions and not the bull Jack makes up. Do it and tell your friends to do it.
